Young Carers
acta’s youth theatres for young people with caring responsibilities give young carers the opportunity to devise and perform original theatre, in a safe and exciting enviroment with other young people in similar situations. All young carers in Bristol are welcome to join. Acta works in partnership with other organisations in the City to support young people to take a break from their caring, to take part in the youth theatres.
Who Cares? Youth Theatre
In 2010, the group performed two new pieces, The Box, at the acta centre in April, and Well Blessed, a site-specific show at the Bishops Palace in Wells in July, with funding through the Young Roots Heritage Lottery Fund.
In the Autumn term, group members completed a wide range of personal projects towards their youth arts awards. Many also worked on future plans for acta’s work with young carers, discussing the need for an older group for 19 – 25 years and the potential impact of regular weekly creative opportunities for new young carers.
Acta has been working with young carers for over a decade. Previously, the group performed The Time Machine in February 09, at a youth theatre festival at the acta centre. They also created The Village of Not So Far Away in May ‘07, and in July of the same year, took part in a summer residential at Cleeve Abbey in Somerset, where they worked with other young carers from the Somerset area to create and perform The Voice.
