Communities

section: heritage | November 2006

acta works with a wide variety of communities to help them create theatre which explores their own heritage, and re-tells the story of their community. This includes large-scale community play projects as well as smaller projects.

Future acta heritage projects

section: heritage | November 2006

We are currently working towards a heritage project in Filton in 2010, to mark the aviation industry centenary.

Further opportunities to develop the partnership with Bristol Museums, Galleries & Archives will be explored through the new Museum of Bristol.

The educational impact of participatory arts projects in schools is often best illustrated by our heritage projects. Most recently in Autumn 08, we involved children from two primary schools in the Upper Horfield community play, The Other Side of The Road, a project supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund.

acta is keen to develop the concept of live interpretation on museum and historic sites as an opportunity for participatory theatre. Most recently, in July 07 The Voice of Cleeve Abbey involved children and young people from Bristol and Somerset working together to create a live interpretation piece, which took inspiration from the beautiful ruins of Cleeve. This was a partnership project between acta and English Heritage, with funds from Heritage Lottery Young Roots.
