A series of weekly arts sessions for older people (aged 55 yrs+)  funded by Linkage and Quartet.

On the Street

acta’s Older People’s Arts (OPA) group have been touring their new puppet show for young children, On the Street. The show has already performed for two schools in Bedminster and for residents at Monica Wills Trust, and has further shows booked as follows:-

Thursday 26 November, Greater Bedminster Older People’s Forum & children from Ashton Vale Primary School

Tuesday 1 December, 11am at Luckwell Primary School.

The group is also looking for new members, so if you’d like to get involved please contact the acta centre, or simply come along to sessions on Tuesdays at acta, 10.00 – 12.00. In the Autumn term, the group will be creating a book for local children, to link with the On the Street show.

Upper Horfield, North Bristol

Following the success of the Sharing Memories project in 2008, including The Other Side of the Road community play, acta is currently developing a new project for local people this Autumn. There will be opportunities to get involved throughout October, including a range of workshops in half-term week, all leading to a community celebration on Saturday 7 November, in partnership with UHCT, who will be celebrating their 10th birthday!

‘Create and Make’ sessions will be at Eden Grove Hall on:

Monday 26th October-Friday 30th October, 10am-12pm and 1pm-3pm

All adults and families welcome (under 16’s must be accompanied by an adult).

Magic Day

section: neighbourhood arts | October 2007

Magic Day is our creative play project for young children in Kingsweston, North Bristol, and 2009 is the second year of the three year project. The second large-scale annual event took place on 16 – 17 April 09, involving over 500 local people, and there are a series of mini events planned for later in the year; (see What’s On page for further details).

If you’d like to get involved in Magic Day, there are a series of Saturday morning workshops on the first Saturday of the month at Lawrence Weston Community Farm, 10.00 – 12.00.  All welcome!

UPDATE: Farm session on Sat 7th November has been cancelled, next one will be on Sat 5th December

The annual Magic Day event in 2010 will once again take place in April, and involve local acta youth theatre groups who will perform shows for the young families attending the day.

Open Circle

Open Circle began this Autumn - acta’s family learning project to involve local families in both Bedminster (South Bristol) and Kingsweston (North Bristol) in a wide range of participatory arts workshops. The project offers free weekly creative activities to local families who are interested in trying out arts activities that can be replicated in the home.
